Regrets

When I met my husband, he was actually in the process of finalizing a divorce.  As part of that, he and his ex were selling his house, where he’d been living alone for about a year since she’d moved out.  In order to sell the house quickly, he sold it to a custom luxury home builder in Florida.

It was a beautiful old home, but the FL luxury home builder had of course purchased it for the oversize lot it was on.  They tore down the old house and put up a beautiful custom home there instead.  The new home is very pretty but still, sometimes it’s sad to think that a perfectly good, historical home got torn down to make room for it.

At the time my husband thought it was appropriate that the old house got torn down — symbolic of the dissolution of his marriage, I guess.  But after a while he ended up feeling kind of bad about it.  In our area there are a lot of historic homes being scraped to make room for newer, bigger custom homes.  No one wants to raise a family in a 1,000 square foot home anymore!

Not all custom home builders in FL are evil, though.  I don’t mind so much seeing old homes torn down to make way for the new when the new homes happen to be an improvement!
