What does your Greek Clothing Say about You?

You’re a member of a sorority or a fraternity. You like it, usually. But you don’t feel overwhelmed by the wonder of being part of this established organization. As a result, you’ve been hesitant to express pride in too many ways. In fact, the Greek clothing that you bought when you first became part of the group has been lingering in your closet and your brothers or sisters are starting to ask why you never wear it.
Perhaps the reason is that you’re concerned about what wearing Apparel for Greeks says about you. Many people enjoy being part of a group at first but then feel like they are losing their own identity because the group is such an important part of who they are. If you don’t want to wear the symbols of your membership on your sleeve, this could be because you’re concerned that this is all that people will notice about you. You don’t want to be pigeonholed into just being a part of the group when you have a vibrant personality that is all your own.
At the same time, you do enjoy the group and don’t want to lose out on the opportunities that are available to you as a result of your membership. So what should you do? Many students in this position find a compromise in getting Merchandise for Greeks instead of wearing Greek clothing. You can get a keychain, a notebook, even a flask to take to parties (if you’re old enough to drink) which bears the name of your organization. In this way, you will still be able to show your commitment to the group without compromising your commitment to defining yourself.
