What We Can Learn From Claddagh Rings

Although you might not know them by name, you have probably seen Claddagh rings before. These are the traditional Celtic engagement rings or friendship rings that incorporate the design of two hands holding a heart topped off by a crown. You might think that these are just Celtic wedding rings designed for Irish marriages but there is actually a lot to be learned from the symbolism behind these rings.
The three parts of the design represent the three aspects of a relationship that we should all aspire to. First there is the heart which reflects the love that we hope binds every relationship together. Second is the hands wrapped around this heart which represent that friendship should be a key part of every loving relationship. We may be drawn together by lust but we stay together because we are friends. And then there is the crown for loyalty which forms the foundation of trust that each relationship should be built upon.
You might not actually wear a Claddagh ring but the things that it symbolizes should be something that you take into your own relationships. These are simple foundations of romantic connections that we sometimes forget in the complex world of marriage. Bringing our relationships back to these basics can help us to keep the flame of love glowing for many years to come.
