Ultrasonic flow meter readers are a product which measures the volume of liquid as it flows through a pipe. This can be used to track the water flow of any area for any given time period. This allows the person doing the tracking to adjust usage of liquids such as water over time.

There are three different time periods which can be tracked with mass flow meters, each of which will provide you with different information that may be of use at different times:

• Daily. If you believe there may be a problem with the pipes in a building, you can check the daily liquid volume and compare it to previous days in order to determine if there really is a problem.
• Monthly. A good way to determine how much liquid is being used and if it could be adjusted is to figure out how much is used throughout the course of one month.
• Yearly. Seasonal changes in usage can be understood when tracking the information over the course of an entire year.

Products that are sold for the purpose of measuring liquid volume (such as those created and distributed by Sierra Instruments) generally come with a tracking device that will allow the consumer to track liquid usage over the course of any of these three time periods.
